Where else can I keep this?

I’d like to think that a memory written down will be remembered. As if time won’t age it, the way my mental thoughts can. Ignoring that paper is just as fragile as a memory. But I know that this isn’t true. I know that time passes everywhere, and can’t be stopped. But writing it down takes the stress off my mind and puts something that needs to be saved in another spot. It creates two places where something special can be safe.

And when I do this, I breathe a sigh of relief and know that something precious has another place to rest. Another chance at being preserved. That I don’t just have to trust myself to keep it, remember it, and bring it to mind.

I’m sharing the responsibility.

And this works with everything in life. When we hold on to things, thinking it’s only our responsibility and job to keep it safe, then our brain space gets really small from the weight of the task.

But when we take a deep breath and ask ourselves, “Where else can I keep this safe?” we’ll see that there are other options we hadn’t thought of before. And this frees up lots of space mentally for more current demands.

What are you holding on to that you just simply need to write down and save for another day?

What are you thinking is only your job but can really be shared elsewhere?

What are you holding on to simply because you’ve not allowed yourself to think that there could be another way?

Are you ready to start relaxing your mind while still preserving what’s valuable?
